General Responsibilities
Provides general medical care and treatment to patients in medical facility under direction of physician.  Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of physician.  Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s prognosis, based on patient’s condition.  Discusses case with physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan.  Submits health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by physician.  Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.  May refer patients to physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.  The role of the oncology nurse encompasses both direct and indirect aspects of nursing care.  Ambulatory oncology nursing includes the roles of direct caregiver, educator, clinical service coordinator, research nurse.  It is multimodal, including medical, surgical, and radiotherapy nursing practice.  Maintains compliance of COLA, OSHA and CLIA to maintain laboratory status.

General Requirements
The ARNP nurse practitioner will hold a current valid unencumbered Indiana registered nurse license to practice nursing and meet the requirements of all applicable laws for practice as an advanced practice nurse in the State of Indiana for prescriptive authority.  The nurse practitioner is
  • a graduate of a recognized registered nursing program offered by a college or university accredited by the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation and has successfully completed a graduate level pharmacology course consisting of at least two semester hours of academic credit from a graduate program offered by a college or university accredited by the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation.
  • Certification is from an accredited ANA association or organization [Not required by statute or regulation] and the nurse practitioner maintains required continuing education hours for certification.Must maintain current Indiana nursing license;
  • Oncology Nurse Certification highly encouraged and supported;
  • CPR certification required ;
  • In office IV and Port Certification required
